Aruba

If I think of a place where the theme is total relaxation, I think of Aruba. This island makes up the A of the ABC islands (BC-Bonaire and Curacao). I spent my 34th birthday here with my friend Ashley.

My favorite place to eat was Lolas tacos and already I know you are thinking, wait, is this Mexico? I thought the post was about Aruba??? But honestly take my word for it: these tacos are not your regular tacos.

I wanted to go to Aruba because I have this ongoing thing for flamingos. I had read somewhere that pink flamingos were an endangered species but it turns out they are not. Pink flamingoes are a protected species but their actual numbers are thriving. Nevertheless, the flamingoes turned out to be something really interesting to see and in part seeing them was the highlight of my trip.

Our hotel was located walking distance from the Main Street and there were plenty of restaurants and places to shop there. There were also places to dance and socialize. I would recommend staying in this area if these are things that would interest you as a traveler. It was very helpful to have a car as many of the excursions that we wanted to participate in were not located in this area and I presume they would be difficult to get to without a car. Some restaurants such as Papamiento and Oneils were far away from Main Street. If you are like me, exploring a country is a crucial part of visiting a foreign country and driving facilitated that.

My one regret on this trip was not taking a quick flight or ferry to Bonaire and Curacao. But until next time, Bon Bini!
