Costa Rica

An Ecological Dream

in 2019 I went to Costa Rica. I went alone for my 30th birthday. I planned for a 7 day trip. I often times get asked If I feel afraid while traveling to foreign countries and I often times respond, not really. If you follow a few simple rules (More on this in my post on Top Rules For Solo Travelers), then traveling alone can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. I also met a few solo travelers who are now lifelong friends.

One of the most striking things about Costa Rica is how stunningly beautiful the place is. The people and government have a made a commitment to conserving the environment and that was clear to me from the moment I landed in San Jose. it is probably the cleanest Central American country that I have been to.

When I made the journey into the heart rainforest, thats when I truly fell in love with the place. The vegetation was lush and the air was misty. There was a plethora of wildlife to engage with.

The food was also amazing! But I must warn you there is an unusual amount of beans and rice. Beans and rice are served with almost every meal: yes rice and beans for breakfast!

I booked an excursion for each day, mostly because I had tried to save money and did not rent a car. But also because I wanted to do a lot of activities in celebration of my birthday. Most of the excursions offered pick up and drop off which added an extra layer of convenience. My hotel also provided airport drop pick up and drop off. So not having a car did not prove to be a big issue on this trip.

The details on what I did on each day can be found in the paid itinerary linked here.
