What do I pack?

So there has been a growing number of people who have been asking what I pack for various trips and so I have created a very detailed list. I pack the same things every time I travel, with very little variation. I hope my globetrotters will find this information helpful.

Before you begin, you should always ask these 3 things:

  1. What is the weather?
  2. How many days will it take me to get there eg by plane? 
  3. How many days will I spend at my destination?

Checked luggage:

(assumes a 5 day trip, +2 days in the air for total of 7)
  1. Outfits: 5 day, 5 night, 5 lounging, 1 outfit to wear onto the plane, 1 outfit to wear home
  2. Shoes: 1 running, 1 stiletto, 2 sandals, 1 shower sandal
  3. 8 pairs socks
  4. 2 sleepwear sets (1 set for every 3 days)
  5. 5 swimsuits: 1 coverup, 1 swimcap, water shoes
  6. 5 sports bras, 5 biker shorts
  7. 2 undies, 1 bra per day
    • P.S. Your underwear reserve should be total number of trip days (7)       divided by 2.
  8. Cosmetics + hair products
  9. 3 ziplock bags, 3 trash bags

  10. Purses, handbags, fanny packs

Things that vary based on the trip in question:
  1. Raincoat
  2. Sweater/Jacket

Carry on luggage:

  1. Electronics + recording equipment + chargers 
  2. Passport/travel documents
  3. Jewelry
  4. Books/entertainment
  5. Credit cards and checkbook
  6. Advanced directive/living will
  7. Sunglasses/ swim goggles/ watercase
  8. Water bottle with water filter
  9. Change of clothes, underwear, sandal, compression socks
  10. Northface jacket
  11. Medicine bag: 
    -Vaseline

    -Lysol (travel size)

    -Over the counter (otc) eardrops
    -OTC eyewash 
    -Ciprofloxacin/Doxycycline/Keflex - antibiotic
    -Zofran- for vomiting 
    -Dramamine-for seasickness
    -Liquid bandaid or Neosporin + cloth bandaid 
    -Nasal saline
    -Bengay/Voltaren gel—for aches and pains. 
    -Aloe gel-for sunburn
    -Face sunscreen
    -Body sunscreen
    -Mosquito repellant
    -Tessalon pearls for coughing, you can sub in an otc cough medicine, since Tessalon pearls are a prescription medicine
    -OTC hydrocortisone 1%
    -Toothache gel
    -GasX
    -Medicine for constipation
    -Ibuprofen (Motrin), sub in Tylenol if you can’t have ibuprofen
    -Lactaid
    -Zyrtec/Loratidine,
    -Tums
    -Benadryl
    -Pyridium (for pain when you pee, if you get a uti). 
    -Don't forget your prescription meds too! 
    -I also bring a nasal dropper, box of matches and bobby pin-- just trust me on this.
